“Do you Offer Self Defense Classes?”

yes, karate and aikido are self defense.

Martial arts are often thought of as magical, requiring years of meditation and tutelage to master. Sporting venues, like MMA and the Olympic Games, make it seem like you need to be a toned beast, with cat like reflexes. Mental effort and sport are facets of martial participation. Self defense is practical. It’s not fancy, and the shortest path to making the bad guy stop is usually just being able to put up a fight and resist.

It is true that self defense is physical. If you’re in shape, your fight may be easier. If you are flexible, you may not get hurt as badly if you fall. Typical self defense encounters are brief, and usually ended by the last strike thrown. You need to be able to do a few things well, and karate training will help you figure out what they are. But it must be practiced!

A metaphor to consider is driving. When you get in your car, you want to get from point A to B safely, and not get in a wreck. That does NOT require the highly specialized skills of a race car driver, nor does 1 day of driving instruction prepare you for 5 lanes of divided traffic.

We offer the opportunity to practice and build competency around a core set of philosophies that will work across a wide range threats. Nothing mystical, but it does take effort!
